This time the game looks re-smoothed for this Nintendo Switch release, the graphical comparison is more uninteresting.
F-Zero X was originally released for the N64 in 1998. It has since appeared on the Wii's Virtual Console.
A brilliant successor to a Super Nintendo classic, F-Zero X is one of the fastest races you'll ever see. And if the first opus of F-Zero already made you dizzy, wait until you see F-Zero X! Arguably one of the reasons F-Zero X is so huge is the consistent smoothness of its animations. And never the slightest slowdown, even when you have 30 ships on screen battling for pole position. The race that you will probably become most addicted to is the one that allows you to pit four players against each other in split screen, and this, always without floating in the speed of the game.
Just like in the original F-Zero, the trail edges are mounted in a way that will damage your vehicle if you fail to avoid them, which should be sure to motivate you to drive as accurately as possible. There are speed boosters which are located in strategic places around the track, but you can also engage the turbo yourself by pressing the B button when you have completed a lap, but be aware that this will be at the cost of loss of protective energy. Thanks to the R and Z buttons which allow your car to better negotiate the turns, you will be able to carve the road. Well-designed controls give a natural feel and allow you to have your vehicle well in hand,
Players have 30 different racing ships to choose from, featuring refreshes of Captain Falcon's Blue Falcon and other vehicles from F-Zero. Each ship has different piloting characteristics. Some are light vehicles that move easily, while others are heavier and more difficult to maneuver. But you can achieve victory with any of these ships. And don't make the mistake of thinking that the fastest vehicles always win. Heavier ships are armored and therefore better able to withstand damage from runway side slides. And besides, for the more tortuous and more treacherous courses, you will see that sometimes it is enough to be the last ship to float in the race to win!
With F-Zero X, you can adjust the angle of view during the race, rotate the camera to look behind your vehicle, or raise it to see an aerial view of the race. You can also zoom in on your vehicle, to notice that it is made up of simple shapes with a beautifully clean design. The environments aren't cluttered with unnecessary detail either. And besides, at 1,000 KPH, you won't have much time to admire the scenery. In addition to its new vehicles, circuits and characters, F-Zero X really has everything to make a hit that we never tire of replaying. To be able to pilot each of the 30 vehicles and race on all tracks, you must prove yourself by placing well in each of the different track modes. Ah, the weapons and various bonuses. What for ? You're already pretty busy with one of the fastest racing games ever.
