As you are aware, the most recent Sony system is still incredibly difficult to obtain and purchase for many gamers. Sony appears to have finally identified a fix.
In fact, a Playstation 5 Slim is currently in the works and may perhaps release in 2023. A lighter, more portable console that is also smaller and easier to make should be more widely available in retailers.
Obviously, none of this information is final. It has been over 3 years since the last system was released, though, given the history of Sony and the PlayStation.
That was the amount of time we had to wait for the PS4 Slim and possibly the PS5. We'll have to wait until November 2020 for the latter, so please be patient.
It won't be available until at least the third quarter of 2023.
A smaller console has the benefit of using less energy, making it more environmentally friendly and easier to store. But in order for everything to fit inside the box, it also calls for more modern components. A watercooling system could also be used to prevent overheating. All of this might result in a new console design, but we won't know more until Sony makes it official.
